Andrea Ranson

Senior Lawyer

Andrea Ranson

Andrea has a colourful professional background with experience in many different law, business and governance roles in Victoria, Queensland and internationally.

That includes time spent as the national manager of a company with national and international interests and off-shore directors, where she took charge of transport, logistics and marketing.

Andrea is now an independent director of a Government Owned Corporation, a Commissioner, QCAT mediator and highly skilled corporate lawyer with over 25 years’ experience.

Andrea’s clients benefit from her ability to create practical and efficient solutions to their business headaches.

Her own experience as a board director informs her advice to clients as she understands the stresses and tensions involved in effective governance. She’s a strong believer in meaningful organisational values, a healthy professional culture and robust governance.

As a dispute resolution specialist, Andrea enables clients to get off the litigation train, resolve the issues and get on with their lives, families and businesses. She’d much rather prevent problems from arising in the first place, though. That’s why she advises her clients to have proper terms and conditions and other documentation in place to reduce their risk.

Andrea gains a great sense of satisfaction from enhancing clients’ perspectives on their business and helping them bring a commercial mindset to the issues at hand.

She values the way Onyx works in partnership with its clients, providing personal attention and service in an efficient and effective manner.

Andrea was admitted as a barrister and solicitor to the High Court of Australia and the Supreme Court of Victoria in 1994.

Her qualifications and registrations include:

  • Bachelor of Arts, Monash University, 1994
  • Bachelor of Laws (Honors), Monash University, 1994
  • Graduate of the Leo Cussen Institute, Melbourne 1994
  • Master of Laws, Monash University, 1998
  • Graduate of the Company Directors’ Course, AICD
  • Fellow of the Governance Institute of Australia
  • National Accreditation in Mediation 2017-2021.

After years of city life, Andrea now lives in regional Queensland and knows what a big role small business plays in the regions. When she’s not working, Andrea enjoys a lively discussion at her book club or heading to the beach with her family.
